Nestled in a secluded spot between the parishes of Highampton, Sheepwash and Hatherleigh, we are incredibly lucky to be in a dark skies area – meaning that Lower Longwood is the perfect spot to disconnect from the outside world and interact with nature.
It’s always been our ambition to share Lower Longwood with fellow nature-lovers and to offer hideaway retreats off the beaten track. After a lot of hard work, we’ve got there! New for 2023, we are thrilled to announce that we are now open for eco-cabin stays in our wildflower meadow, woodland glamping and off-grid weddings in the Devon countryside.
We have been living at Lower Longwood since 2020, after a very quick but slightly crazy decision in which we, as a family, all decided to sell our homes, pool resources and together, turn this 100 acre C17 farmstead back into a haven for wildlife and biodiversity.
Looking to escape the hustle and bustle of town life? Look no further than our secluded woodland cabin – in our opinions, it’s the perfect sanctuary! You’ll find that we’ve done everything we can to make you feel right at home in this colourful and cosy space, complete with all the modern amenities you could ask for, including a wood-fired hot tub and a sundeck with stunning views of your very own private wildflower meadow.

ExcellentBased on 19 reviewsHarry S2023-08-025* Stayed here with my partner and was made to feel at home straight away. Hosts were lovely and everything was explained and shown really well. Facilities were immaculate and we both had a great night in the hut that we stayed in, would definitely recommend.wizzzard20142023-07-04Gem of a place! Currently sat in our van overlooking acres of wild, unspoilt meadow and woods. Lovely and friendly welcome from the site owner who's obviously passionate and cares about your experience whilst staying. Pitches are large and spacious in the main site with the option of your own pitch further up! Basic toilets and hit showers, ECO friendly and just how it should be! Love it!Heidi F2023-07-02Glamping but one with nature. Fantastic place, we booked the glamping pod in avprivate part of woodland, would highly recommend, they were friendly and welcoming from the offset, facilities were spot on and the whole ethos of the place was great a real one with nature feel about it, we saw a deer, owl and buzzard not forgetting the butterflies and moths. Loved the fire pit. Tbh was a place we will definitely be visiting more often and a place I would love to move into and never leave. If your thinking of camping or glamping you must visit here. Our favourite place so far.Emily2023-06-18Perfect woodland haven This is the place to be if you want peace & tranquility in the woodland surrounded by fields with just the sound of birds singing. There are 3 beautiful cabins thoughtfully spaced for privacy & have everything you need, cooking equipment, fire pit, even your own compost toilet & immaculate shower. Just bring bedding & buy a bag of wood for £5, sit back & enjoy this piece of heaven. Will definitely be back!Nedgell2023-06-05Hidden gem! We had a fantastic weekend with friends and family. The site is so peaceful with absolutely stunning views. The owners are really helpful, providing fire pits and wood on request. The site is bursting with wild life and the wild flower meadows were beautiful. I don't usually write reviews but this place definitely needs a mention. We shall be booking again.Sophie P2023-05-29Amazing place! Myself and some of our family have just stayed at Westdown farm, when we arrived we was a bit skeptical but once shown our pitch by Rich we fell in love with our spot the deer pond, the whole farm was peaceful and easy going. The showers were nice and powerful and warm. The de-composting toilets aren’t as bad as they sound and the site has great recycling facilities. My children had so much fun here and didn’t want to come home, we will definitely be going back again and already planning it and looking forward to it. Rich was the only owner we met but he was very nice and brought us up a fire pit and wood within 10 minutes of asking for it, couldn’t have asked for better service.Cornish-One1232022-08-16Relaxing retreat I very much enjoyed a 3 night stay in one of the Posh beds in shedz. All amenities, including composting toilet and solar powered shower close by, settled amongst the tree line at the bottom of the field. Felt very peaceful and private surrounded by wildlife. The whole site is sensitively cared for set within the beautiful Devon countryside. The posh bed was beyond comfortable and was a treat, but I'll be happy to return for the wild camping as the pitches look great too!Seaside5754682021-09-02Bliss A wonderful campsite that is simple but perfect. My partner and I camped in the wild camping area which was great experience, the peace and quiet was just what we wanted. The site has simple amenities such as composting toilets, taps with drinking water, showers and a sink to wash up in. All the facilities were spotlessly clean and there are plenty of bins to recycle your waste. The owners of the site were very friendly and the farm which the site is on is in stunning countryside. We had a great experience and will definitely be back.nickb3582021-04-15Wild Camping with no frills at its best. If you hate crowded, well laid out, regimented campsites with 5 star facilities and screaming kids with no or little respect for others then this could be the place for you. If you are eco minded, are happy using bio compostible loos and basic but functional showers then this site is a MUST for you. We stayed here for 2 nights as soon as sites opened again post Covid lockdown on the 12th April 2021. We are a simple T5 Camper van with self sufficient on board facilities, solar power, gas water heating etc so the facilities that are on site were not needed but were not available anyway with the exception of water for drinking, Chemical waste dumping tank, and grey water drain with non drinking water tap for refilling chem toilet cassettes and so on. All of course due to existing Covid measures. The Sunset View camping field where we stayed only suits 5 vans, 5 tents and 5 camper vans maximum. During our stay there were 3 other vans, 2 VW Transporters and a large Hymer mobile home and these were all accommodated with ease where ever we wanted to park up with plenty of space. The half acre field is on a slight slope but standard leveling blocks were enough to level up sufficiently. We were met on arrival by Stacey and her dad and shown where to go and briefed on facilities etc. They couldn't have been more helpful. Classic friendly Devon Farmers. The sunset on both evenings was simply awesome and its easy to see why this pitch is called 'Sunset View'. During our stay we walked around as much of the farm and its fields and woods as we could and Stacey and Dad are more than happy for visitors to do this and actively encourage it. We hired a fire pit for a one off fee of £5 and a £5 deposit. A £5 bag of wood is excellent value and lasted us 2 nights.£5 DEPOSIT WAS RETURNED VERY PROMPTLY WHEN WE LEFT HAVING HANDED BACK THE FIRE PIT AND EMPTY WOOD BAG! The site was wonderfully peaceful and has everything you need. It is exactly what it says, No frills wild camping. Fantastic! So, here we are, If you want camping with everything there is to offer, noisy play parks, traffic constantly running through the site and hundreds of people with 5 star toilets and showers then go somewhere else as you won't find this here. If quiet, wild and eco facility camping is for you; if you have kids with an interest in farm animals collecting fresh eggs from the chickens and sitting around an evening camp fire, telling tales and stories, roasting marsh mallows and simply just enjoying nature; then this is the place for you. We loved it and we love our luxuries trust me but 2 - 3 nights here chilling out in the evenings around your fire pit is just so good for the soul. And, to boot, all this is smack bang in the middle of Devon with very easy access to the A 386 North to Barnsatable or South to Okehampton and Tavistock. Dartmoor is as good as on your doorstep too and a must. We will 100% be going back again. Awesome!Richard Polglase2019-09-21One for the wild camping fans Arrived by motorbike and was meet by Stacy, quick chat about where to put my bike and to explain where the water points etc are. Wild camped in the woods where you just pitch at your chosen spot. Large bag of well chopped wood was cheap and enough for two nights. Lovely rare breed cattle and a couple Tamworth pigs, to say hello to, If your a biker you can chose to camp in the field and have your bike next to your tent, I put my bike on a nice level area near the field and camped in the woods. Great biking roads all around the area. Will be back next year.
